Applicants at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate their potential to produce international research, have a commitment to excellence in teaching (in English), good interpersonal skills and networking ability. Applicants for higher levels must, in addition, have a proven track record of publications in high-impact international journals and a demonstrated capacity to pursue research funding and lead academic programs.
Postgraduate teaching experience is preferable for Assistant Professors but essential for senior appointments. A successful candidate should be able to design and teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, develop the School of Education academic program, and supervise Masters theses and capstone exercises. Active participation in the activities of the School of Education include close engagement with the international advisory group, local education practitioners, policy makers, and executive training opportunities.
The School of Education, established in January 2017, joins as the fifth school at LUMS, after the already established schools of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, and Law. The LUMS School of Education will operate at the crucial nexus of research, policy and practice, supporting a faculty that is internationally competitive, connected, and relevant. The curriculum, featuring extensive field engagement, will produce graduates capable of becoming strategic leaders, policy researchers, and reflective practitioners, distinctly placed to direct and shape a reimagined and vibrant education reform agenda for Pakistan.
The School of Education has an active International Advisory Board composed of distinguished researchers. It has strong research and teaching partnerships with leading schools and faculties of education in the US and UK.
Three kinds of programs will initially be offered under the LUMS School of Education: A Masters in Education Policy, Leadership and Management, starting in Fall 2018; a Minor in Education for LUMS undergraduate students; and a Professional Education Institute for Policy and Practice, to actively engage and provide trainings to the public, private, non-profit, and donor sectors of education in the country.
