Job Description: Residential Community Coordinator (Night Warden)
Position Summary:
The Residential Community Coordinator is crucial in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging student living environment. This position requires a highly motivated and compassionate individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, building a strong sense of community, and supporting student success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Building:
- Organize and facilitate social and cultural events to foster community among residents.
- Collaborate with Floor Advisors to develop and implement engaging programs and activities that cater to the interests of residents.
- Coordinate and oversee the execution of various events, such as movie nights, game nights, cultural celebrations, and workshops.
- Encourage resident participation in programs and activities, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging.
- Gather feedback from residents to improve future programming and events.
2. Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of residents, including attendance and incident reports.
- Enforce college rules and regulations, addressing violations promptly and fairly.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of common areas.
- Work closely with other staff members, such as security personnel, maintenance staff, academic advisors, and Floor Advisors.
- Prepare regular reports on incidents, activities, and resident concerns.
3. Resident Support and Welfare:
- Provide support, guidance, and counselling to residents, addressing their concerns and needs.
- Mediate disputes and conflicts among residents.
- Conduct regular well-being checks on residents, especially during exams.
4. Student Engagement and Development:
- Actively engage with residents, building positive relationships and fostering a supportive environment.
- Promote student success by providing academic support, resources, and guidance.
- Assist students in navigating university life and addressing personal and academic challenges.
5. Enrichment Initiatives:
- Identify issues through feedback and coordinate with floor advisors to resolve them.
- Introduce new development initiatives to continuously improve the student experience.
- Work with other departments to implement these initiatives.
6. Early Alert System:
- Work with floor advisors to identify students who need intervention or services.
- Ensure timely support and follow-up for students in need.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
- Experience working with students is preferred in a residential setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using computers and relevant software applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
