Job Description

The Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law is endeavouring to compile a team to help develop the recently established pro-bono legal aid clinic and provide support with the clinical programme. The role involves active coordination and support for the development of the clinical programme. S/He should be passionate about the promotion of the aims of clinical legal education as well as capable of undertaking the detail-oriented tasks associated with helping to run the clinics.

Key Accountabilities

Pedagogical Research and Documentation:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of clinical legal education methodologies to enhance experiential learning for students.
  • Document best practices in legal pedagogy and propose strategies to strengthen clinical legal training.

Legal Research and Case Analysis:

  • Perform comprehensive legal research on case law, statutory provisions, and judicial precedents to support the clinic’s work.
  • Prepare detailed case chronologies, legal memoranda, and concise case briefs.

Student Supervision and Experiential Learning Support:

  • Accompany students on court hearings, client interviews, and prison visits, ensuring they gain hands-on legal experience.

Legal Clinic Administration and E-Portal Management:

  • Ensure the development and regular maintenance of the legal clinic’s e-portal, including timely updates and accessibility.
  • Maintain comprehensive case records, ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Manage and update the legal database, tracking case progress, client interactions, and legal resources.

Administrative Responsibilities and Compliance:

  • Handle administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, drafting correspondence, and organising legal documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, legal aid regulations, and procedural deadlines in all clinic activities.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Provide regular project updates and detailed reports to clinic leadership, highlighting key achievements and challenges.
  • Develop reports, policy briefs, and promotional materials to support the establishment and expansion of the Centre.

Community Outreach and Legal Awareness Initiatives:

  • Plan and organise engagement programmes, legal awareness seminars, and training workshops in collaboration with faculty and legal practitioners.
  • Organise public legal education sessions, ensuring access to justice for underprivileged communities.
     
  • Foster relationships with legal aid organisations, NGOs, and governmental bodies to strengthen the clinic’s outreach and impact.

Other Responsibilities (optional):

  • As assigned by the immediate Supervisor, Clinic Head, or School Dean.
Qualification
  • The ideal candidate must hold a law degree and have a strong interest in developing a legal aid clinic.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in an operational role and dealing with development partners within education sector.
