Position Purpose:

Provision of coaching and training to university teams, members and regular users of the pool. Ensure the safety of users while conducting the training session.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise the safety of all areas within the pool facility and perform rescues when necessary to ensure the well-being of the community.
  • Plan and effectively organize class time to maximize practice and development for team members.
  • Assist the Swimming Pool Officer in preparing and executing pool-related activities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to all users.
  • Maintain the pool facility to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times.
  • Support the opening and closing procedures of the facility and assist in monitoring the premises for security.
  • Interact with the community in a respectful and responsible manner. Welcome all facility users, promote a positive image of the pool, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Adhere to all Pool Safe Operating Procedures at all times.
  • Maintain vigilant supervision of the swimming pool area in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program for the selection and training of LUMS swimming teams. Accompany teams to Intervarsity championships as required.
  • Organize competitions for the LUMS community and maintain accurate records of teams and events.
  • Assist the Pool Officer in maintaining sports equipment, activity areas, and storage facilities in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Lead the setup, operation, and dismantling of equipment for events and activities. Perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Conduct routine checks of members’ receipts or cards to verify proof of payment for pool entry.
  • Ensure that all pool equipment is properly stored in a safe and secure manner when not in use.
  • Serve as the swim instructor, responsible for teaching all swim lesson participants.
  • Instruct and evaluate students enrolled in swim lessons.
  • Submit completed report cards, skill assessment sheets, and attendance records in a timely manner.
  • Plan and conduct the summer swim program for school children.
  • Available to work weekends/holidays.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures. 
  • Ability to instruct swimming lessons. 
  • Knowledge of swimming strokes and teaching levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc.

Skills: 

  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork. 
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Experience:

  • Minimum three years of relevant experience.
  • Previous work as a swimming coach.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Qualified first aider. (CPR).
