Position Purpose: 

The Emergency Counsellor will serve as a key crisis response professional, providing immediate psychological support and intervention during night hours. The role includes attending to emergency calls, conducting safety planning, and ensuring appropriate intervention strategies are followed to support student mental health and wellbeing during after-hours.

Key Accountabilities:

• Assessing clients to determine mental health needs and exigent/critical situations.
• Providing critical resources and support to individuals in crisis.
• Providing crisis management services during the acute stage and then transferring them to the care of relevant mental health institutions.
• Ensuring that non-critical clients are provided sufficient counseling, to ensure supportive coping mechanisms and that they may be able to regain control of their life.
• Providing individuals in crisis, family members, and the surrounding communities with relevant information.
• Coordinating and liaising with relevant in-house departments in regard to intervention, outreach, referrals, services, and more.
• Communicating, both orally and in written form, with other members of the CAPS team and relevant personnel to improve program efficiency or overall crisis intervention success.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to respond calmly and clearly, avoiding actions that may escalate the situation.
• Competence in delivering effective first responder services and psychological first aid.
• Capacity to innovate when necessary and adapt easily to dynamic situations.
• Physical proximity or availability to ensure a timely response to crises within the vicinity.

Qualification:

Master’s degree from an HEC-recognized university in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.

Experience:

1 to 2 years of Professional experience.

Position Nature: 

On-site, Night shift (Monday–Friday, 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM).
