This project evaluates the effectiveness of Pakistan’s digital "Track & Trace" reform in curbing tax evasion. It assesses the reform’s impact on business behavior, market competition, prices, and the prevalence of illicit trade. The project is led by a team of researchers from the University of Sussex, LUMS, and UC San Diego.

Position Summary
The Research Associate/Assistant will support project implementation through data management and analysis, field coordination, and support with stakeholder engagement. This role is based in Islamabad and might require occasional travel to other cities in Pakistan.

Key Responsibilities
● Curate, clean, and merge large-scale administrative and survey datasets.
● Undertake statistical and econometric analysis, and visualization tasks.
● Program and pilot-test survey instruments and questionnaires.
● Support coordination with government officials and any other relevant stakeholders.
● Manage field activities and implement high-frequency checks to ensure data integrity.
● Conduct background research and literature reviews.
● Draft project documentation, meeting summaries, and technical progress reports.

Qualification


● Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Data Science, or a related field.
● At least 1 year of experience in data cleaning and management of large datasets is preferred, but not required.
● Proficiency in at least one statistical tool (e.g., Stata, R, or Python).
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Fluency in English and Urdu is required.
● Comfort working with public sector partners and in collaborative teams.
● Based in (or willing to relocate to) Islamabad.
