Job Description

The Center for Air Pollution and Environment (CAPE) at LUMS invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to interdisciplinary research addressing air pollution and its environmental and societal impacts. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team working to advance the scientific understanding of air pollution in Pakistan and develop evidence-based approaches to improve air quality.

Research Areas: 

Ambient air-quality monitoring, chemical analysis of particulate matter, source apportionment, receptor and dispersion modelling, assessment of emissions, exposure, and environmental impacts

Funding: 

This is a fully funded, full-time position supported through CAPE. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for two years, subject to satisfactory performance. A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, and in accordance with LUMS policies.

Research and Mentorship: 

The selected applicant will work under the mentorship of the CAPE Director and collaborate with a diverse team of experts from national and international institutions working in high-impact research areas.

Expectations: 

  • The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Support field sampling, laboratory analysis, and data analysis using relevant computational or statistical tools;
  • Maintain rigorous research records and follow relevant quality-assurance and safety protocols;
  • Prepare research papers, technical reports, presentations, and policy-relevant outputs;
  • Present findings at research meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements;
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals;
  • Mentor students and research staff.
Qualification

A good PhD in a relevant science or engineering discipline, with research experience in the broad area of air-quality monitoring, including aerosol or particulate-matter characterization, analytical instrumentation, and/or modelling. Familiarity with instruments and techniques such as ion chromatography, GC–MS, ICP–OES, XRF, OC/EC analysis, aerosol samplers would be advantageous. Additionally, applicants should have strong scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
