On October 14, 2024, the Office of Human Resources at LUMS, in partnership with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Cancer Care Hospital, and Essa Laboratories (LCSS), hosted Breast Cancer Awareness Day. This event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and reaffirm LUMS’ commitment to promoting women's health and well-being.
A major highlight of the event was the 2-day Free Mammography Camp offered by Cancer Care Hospital, providing early detection services for breast cancer. In addition, Essa Laboratories set up a medical camp at the LUMS Medical Centre, offering various health tests specifically related to women's health.
The awareness session featured a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Wajiha, where expert speakers delved into crucial topics surrounding breast cancer, such as early symptoms, treatment options, stages, and common misconceptions. A special moment was the moving testimony from Ms. Aminah Ejaz, a courageous breast cancer survivor, who shared her personal journey, offering hope and inspiration to many in attendance. Her heartfelt story highlighted the importance of early detection and emotional resilience.
The session included an engaging Q&A, where attendees could address their concerns directly to the panel. This interactive discussion helped clarify doubts and fostered an open conversation on breast cancer awareness.
To show appreciation for their contributions, Ms. Wajiha Ally, Director of Human Resources, presented tokens of gratitude to the panellists. Dr. Wajiha Jahangir led an important demonstration on the self-examination technique, urging female staff members to practice regular checks, promoting self-care and early detection. As a symbolic gesture, all attendees pledged to prioritize their health and perform routine self-examinations.
As a symbolic gesture of hope and the collective fight against breast cancer, attendees joined together to release balloons, representing the commitment to eradicating the disease and spreading awareness.
LUMS remains committed to empowering its community by raising awareness on critical health issues, reinforcing the importance of health education and regular screenings for a healthier future.
